Here at Partnered Solutions, we are excited to be rolling out something that we think will revolutionize the way businesses handle IT for the rest of the decade. Yes, that’s right, the decade. We know how fast technology changes and this is a bold statement. So what are the current challenges that we’re addressing?
Well, upgrading a server can cost upwards of $50,000 and needs to be done probably once every 5 years or so. Companies like the idea of being able to access and collaboratively work on files shared in the cloud, but it’s also nice to know where your data is being stored (a warehouse on the East Coast–or even another country?) and whether it is secure. A company may decide to invest in a hardware or software solution, but three years later it goes out of support, or the licensing changes to be no longer financially viable, and you can be left with something obsolete that no longer fits your business needs.
How are we solving these issues?
Enter cloud-integrated edge computing. We’re calling our product the Mye Edge device, which is a piece of hardware that lives in your office, on the “edge” of your network, connecting the files you have physically on-premises in a drive with the services you need to run your business: file service, cloud storage, security & firewall, email, back-ups, and more.
The Mye Edge device, in conjunction with the Managed IT services we already offer our clients, places the responsibility of security, optimization, and support on us—in order to provide companies with a solution that will help them avoid the large expenses of upgrading servers, paying for creeping cloud storage fees, and throwing away obsolete technology.
We think the Mye Edge is especially convenient for growing companies, or those that need to be nimble in the current day and age, because of its flexibility: add more storage, remote work capacity for employees, and extra security for a few months while we’re socially-distancing, and leave it behind when the world returns to normal (or don’t!).
What are considerations for cloud-integrated edge computing?
Because your data is stored in drives within the Mye Edge device, you will need to consider physical security for your information. Make sure that you are monitoring the comings and goings of your building, and it’s never a bad idea to have your Mye Edge somewhere behind a locked door. There is no long-term commitment, so you can pull your drives at any time to give them to another provider—we’ll just need to recover and remove the Mye Edge appliance from your office. There is a one-time set up fee and modest monthly management fee, but these costs are far less than replacing an old server, or patching together a 100% cloud solution.
How do I know if the Mye Edge is right for my business?
We devised our solution for cloud-integrated edge computing for small and medium-sized local businesses. If your business has anywhere from 10 to 100 workstations, it is worth exploring if the Mye Edge can be beneficial as for your managed IT services. We’d encourage you to reach out to us—with a number of Mye Edge devices already out there in the wild in the Eugene-Springfield and Medford areas, we’re happy to share the feedback of our other clients.
